Cat Costume Size Guide

The right size is the difference between a cat who poses for the photo and a cat who wriggles out in five seconds. Here is how to measure, and which size to pick.

How to measure your cat

  1. Neck girth (the one that matters most): wrap a soft measuring tape around the base of the neck, where a collar sits. Leave room for one finger under the tape.
  2. Chest girth: measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
  3. Weight (optional): helpful as a sanity check if you are between sizes.

No measuring tape? Use a piece of string or a phone charger cable, mark it, then measure it against a ruler.

Size chart

Size Neck girth Usually fits
XS 26 cm / 10.2 in Young kittens
S 28 cm / 11 in Kittens and small cats
M 36 cm / 14.2 in Average adult cats
L 38 cm / 15 in Large cats and small dogs
XL 40 cm / 15.7 in Big cats and small dogs

Measurements may vary by 1 to 3 cm.

Sizes by costume

Between two sizes?

Pick the larger one. A slightly loose costume is comfortable and stays on; a tight one gets pulled off. If your cat is long and slim, go by neck girth. If your cat is broad chested, size up.
